This Thursday, January 30, a legend bid farewell and played his final match on the Patrice Dominguez court.
Richard Gasquet had announced it: this was his last edition, and inevitably, we were approaching his final match here, at home, in Montpellier. And it finally happened tonight, against Tallon Griekspoor, who remained very solid despite the arena’s support for the local legend.
In the other matches of the day, surprises were in store: two seeded players, Flavio Cobolli and Arthur Rinderknech, were eliminated by Jesper de Jong and qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili, respectively. Additionally, another qualifier continues his journey: Aleksandar Kovacevic defeated Mattia Bellucci in two sets and advanced to the quarterfinals.
In doubles, our defending champions Doumbia and Reboul were eliminated by the Dutch pair Haase-van de Zandschulp. The French pair Guinard-Jacq advanced to the semifinals by defeating the third-seeded pair Bhambri-Dodig, while the pair Arends-Johnson also reached the semifinals.
Tomorrow promises to be an exciting day with the first doubles semifinal and matches featuring Andrey Rublev, world number 10, Alexander Bublik, our defending champion, and Félix Auger-Aliassime, the second seed. Spectacular tennis is guaranteed.
If you haven’t already, there’s still time to buy your tickets to enjoy what promises to be another fantastic day of tennis.
