72 players, 54 matches, 300 volunteers, 63,027 spectators and, in the end, one single winner. This 15th edition of the Open Occitanie was full of emotion and spectacle, from 26 January to 2 February.
On Sunday 2 February, the pair Haase-Van de Zandschulp triumphed over the pair Griekspoor-Stevens in an all-Dutch final, decided after a thrilling super tie-break.
On the singles side, the final featured American qualifier Aleksandar Kovacevic, who was impressive from start to finish, dropping just one set in his six matches until the final. He enjoyed impressive victories over 2021 winner David Goffin, defending champion and 2022 winner Alexander Bublik and, in the semi-finals, world number 10 Andrey Rublev. His opponent, Felix Auger Aliassime, also put in a solid performance, not dropping a set until he reached the final.
The Canadian started as favourite because of his ranking, but the American was a solid outsider, and the final promised to be thrilling… Spoiler: we weren’t disappointed: 2 hours 40 minutes of combat, 3 sets, two tie-breaks, some magnificent shots, a crazy atmosphere, a packed arena and, in the end, it was Felix Auger-Aliassime who triumphed.
For his third appearance, the Canadian finally won in Montpellier and lifted the Soleil trophy, presented by Kamel Chibli, regional representative, Sébastien Grosjean, tournament director, Samir Boudjemaa, director of TV Sport Events, co-organiser of the tournament, and Philippe Belou, President of the Occitanie tennis league.
This fifteenth edition would not have been possible without our partners, our volunteers, the ATP, the local authorities: the Occitanie region, the Hérault department, the Pays de l’Or agglomeration, the ball boys and girls, but also without you, the public, and for that, 63,027 thanks! See you next year, in even greater numbers and as motivated as ever!
