On this Kids’ Day, both young and old were treated to a spectacular show.
In the highlight match of the day, which pitted No. 2 seed Félix Auger-Aliassime against local favorite Arthur Cazaux in a packed Sud de France Arena, the battle was intense, but the Canadian skillfully outmaneuvered the Hérault native to win in two sets and one hour and forty-five minutes of play.
In the other matches of the day, the favorites generally prevailed. Chinese player Yunchaokete Bu, Alexander Bublik, and Andrey Rublev defeated their opponents in just over an hour. Qualifiers Nikoloz Basilashvili and Aleksandar Kovacevic pulled off upsets, defeating Mikhail Kukushkin and the 2021 edition winner, David Goffin, respectively. Our French wildcard, Quentin Halys, unfortunately had to retire due to injury early in the second set after losing the first set in a closely contested tie-break against Jesper de Jong.
In doubles, the pairs Griekspoor-Stevens, Arends-Johnson, and the French pair Jacq-Guinard advanced to the next round, winning in two sets.
Tomorrow, don’t miss the doubles quarterfinals starting at 12:30 pm on the Patrice Dominguez court, featuring our defending champions with big hearts, Doumbia and Reboul, who will face the Dutch pair Haase-van de Zandschulp.
Also, be sure to catch Richard Gasquet’s match at 6:30 pm as he aims to move closer to a fourth Sun Trophy, and the debut of our No. 4 seed, Italian Flavio Cobolli, who will play his first singles match of the tournament.
If you haven’t already, there’s still time to buy your tickets to enjoy what promises to be another fantastic day of tennis.
